Pandschab aus unterworfen. 1901 wurde die North-West Frontier Province als eigene Provinz vom Pandschab getrennt und kam 1947 zu Pakistan. Ihre Eingliederung in West-Pakistan 1955 rief den
Widerspruch Afghanistans hervor (Sturm auf die pakistanische
Botschaft in Kabul am 30. 3. 1955), das die sprachverwandten Grenzstämme zur
Bildung eines Staates Paschtunistan veranlassen will.
